ACTING CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER – MR TAHAWAR DURRANI

Mr Tahawar Durrani has been employed by Air Niugini since July 2005. Since December 2014, he was the General Manager Airline Operations, essentially the Chief Operating Officer. He has amassed an impressive 30 years aviation experience and spent 25 of those in aviation management.

Mr Durrani is a highly qualified and suitably competent senior executive who brings to Air Niugini’s top management position total personal integrity and commitment and a vast experience in the airline industry. He holds a Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering (BE), a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) majoring in Finance, and Masters of Information Technology (MIT). Mr Durrani has demonstrated great leadership capacity. He is an effective team-builder and a motivator of staff and has implemented many good initiatives.

Mr Durrani built capacity in the Engineering Department to an extent where heavy maintenance of Dash 8 and Fokker aircraft is being brought back to Port Moresby, saving not only money but foreign exchange. He is an integral part of the company’s ongoing success.

GENERAL MANAGER: PNG STATIONS AND SECURITY – MARCO MCCONNELL, ML

Marco McConnell’s 20 year aviation career spans Ground Operations, Inflight Services and Aviation Security roles. Since 2010 he has held senior executive management positions with Air Niugini and currently works as the General Manager of PNG Stations and Security. Mr. McConnell holds a Diploma in Business Studies and an Advanced Diploma in Airline Management.

GENERAL MANAGER: CUSTOMERS AND MARKETS – MR DOMINIC KAUMU, ML

Dominic Kaumu has over 37 years aviation experience and has spent over 25 of those years with Air Niugini. As General Manager of Customers and Markets, Mr. Kaumu has a deep understanding of Air Niugini’s varied customer base and uses his expertise to meet and exceed their expectations.

GENERAL MANAGER: BUSINESS SERVICES – SAM ROMANO

Sam Romano is Air Niugini’s General Manager of Business Services. In addition to achieving a CPA and MBA degree, Mr. Romano also held Financial Controller and Senior Finance positions at organisations across Australia before making the move to Papua New Guinea and joining the Air Niugini team.

GENERAL MANAGER : HUMAN RESOURCE – MR REI LOGONA, ML

Rei Logona has 33 years aviation experience, focusing on Human Resource Management and Administration. He spent the first five years of his career with Solomon Airlines before moving to Air Niugini where he has worked for 28 years – spending the majority of that time in management roles. Mr. Logona holds a Bachelor of Business in Human Resource Management from the Queensland University of Technology.

EXECUTIVE MANAGER: FLIGHT OPERATIONS – CAPTAIN SAMIU TAUFA

Captain Samiu Taufa is Air Niugini’s very capable Executive Manager of Flight Operations. He has 23 years aviation experience – 8 of which he has spent in management roles. Captain Taufa is a certified “Senior Persons” under CASA rule 119.

EXECUTIVE MANAGER: AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE – FERDINAND ALMEDA

Ferdinand Almeda leads a team of skilled and professional staff looking after the maintenance requirement of the Air Niugini aircraft fleet. He is an Aeronautical Engineer with 18 years and counting of comprehensive experience on Aircraft Maintenance Repair and Overhaul industry. He joined Air Niugini as a Technical Services Engineer evaluating modifications and repairs on aircraft structures and systems. He is the Authorized Engineering Representative delegation of CASA PNG holding Design Approval for aircraft major repairs and modifications.

EXECUTIVE MANAGER: STRATEGY – DAVID GLOVER, ML

David Glover has worked in aviation for over 36 years. He started his career with British Airways, working in various commercial and operational roles for 12 years. He then worked for Air Niugini from 1991 to 2006, HeviLift from 2006 to 2008 and Airlines PNG from 2009 to 2014 before taking on the Executive Manager of Strategy role at Air Niugini.

EXECUTIVE MANAGER: MAINTENANCE CONTROL – BEN ORAKA

Ben Oraka has 21 years airline experience, working as a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer on Air Niugini’s fleet of aircraft including the B767-200/300/CF6-80C2/PW4000, B737-NG/CFM-56, F100/F70/RR TAY, Dash 8 -100/200/300/PW100 and the F28-1000/4000/RR SPEY. Mr. Oraka graduated with an MBA from the University of PNG in 2014.

EXECUTIVE MANAGER: QUALITY AND SAFETY – SANDEEP TYAGI

Sandeep Tyagi is an Aeronautical Engineer (M.E.) with extensive aviation technical experience spaning over 14 years. Mostly worked in airlines environment in Safety and quality departments in Asia and Pacific region. He joined Air Niugini as Audit & Surveillance Manager in Corporate Quality & Safety in 2013; he is now Executive Manager Corporate Quality & Safety.

GENERAL MANAGER: LINKPNG – BRUCE ALABASTER

Bruce Alabaster joins Link PNG with over 20 years of experience in airline industry served in PNG and overseas. His last employer is PNG Air since 2008 and his last position before leaving was General Manager Airports and Facilities. Other positions held whilst with PNG Air were General Manager Operations and Chief Operating Officer. Mr Alabaster joined Link PNG with great wealth of airline management experience, particularly in PNG. He is also a Pilot by background and holds tertiary qualifications in Aviation where he majored in Aviation Management.
