National airline of Papua New Guinea is a first-time GTF customer. LONDON(July 24, 2024 – Farnborough Airshow – Pratt & Whitney, an RTX (NYSE: RTX) business, and Air Niugini have finalized engine and aftermarket agreements for the GTF engines that will power the airline’s fleet of 11 Airbus A220 aircraft. Pratt & Whitney will provide a full suite of support services with a 12-year EngineWise® Comprehensive agreement. With this order, Air Niugini becomes a first-time GTF customer.

AIR NIUGINI ANNOUNCES AIRFARE ADJUSTMENT

Air Niugini wishes to advise our valued customers that the airline is implementing an adjustment to domestic airfares effective today, Monday 15th July. The airline is restructuring its airfares to create better value for the traveling public whilst ensuring a consistent delivery of safer airline services. Over the course of the last twelve months the airline has faced significant increase in the cost of fuel. The cost of airline supply chains both within PNG and globally has increased substantially, and Air Niugini is not immune from these cost increases. The cost of aircraft leases, spares and services sourced from overseas have increased significantly with global supply chain inflationary pressures and appreciating foreign currency value, against the Kina.

AIR NIUGINI WELCOMES ANOTHER BOEING 737 AIRCRAFT

Air Niugini has announced the arrival of its third Boeing 737 aircraft into Port Moresby last night(Sunday 12th May). Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Gary Seddon said the Air Niugini fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft will support the domestic and international operations while progress is made toward the introduction of the new Airbus A220 aircraft from late 2025.

Airbus Beyond to provide Air Niugini with training services

Singapore, 14 November 2023 - Airbus, through its learning subsidiary, Airbus Beyond, has finalised a commitment to support the development of Air Niugini's human capital. The agreement was co-signed by Airbus Beyond CEO Adam McGonigal and Acting CEO of Air Niugini Gary Seddon in Singapore.The move signifies a pivotal step towards advancing the airline's workforce capabilities and aims to equip Air Niugini’s middle management with the expertise required for the next phase of its development. This comes following the recent order by the airline for a new A220 fleet.

A LITTLE BOY’S DREAM OF BECOMING AN AIRCRAFT ENGINEER IS ONLY STARTING

One little boy’s dream of becoming an aircraft engineer has only started. Alex Ontimo, a 15- year old, grade six student at Sevese Morea Primary school at Vabukori village in Port Moresby has always been passionate about airplanes, growing up. It was a dream come true when he visited Air Niugini’s Engineering hangar at 7mile, Jackson’s airport in Port Moresby last Friday, 07 July where he had the opportunity to see what engineers do on a daily basis, saw upfront the aircraft engine, landing gears, tyres and board an Air Niugini aircraft for the first time.

AIR NIUGINI CEO ADDRESSES DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL SCHEDULE DISRUPTIONS, CAUSED BY UNSERVICEABLE BOEING 767 AIRCRAFT

The Acting Chief Executive Officer, Gary Seddon stated that unforeseen technical difficulties with two of our Boeing 767 aircraft, have rendered them both temporarily unserviceable in Brisbane.

AIR NIUGINI CEO ANNOUNCES SAFE RETURN OF AIRCRAFT FOLLOWING ENGINE SHUTDOWN

Air Niugini announced the safe return of one of its aircraft following an engine shutdown during a flight this morning, from Port Moresby to Goroka. The prompt and professional response of the airline crew, in accordance with established protocols, ensured the safety and well-being of all passengers and crew on board. This morning, a De Havilland Dash 8-300 aircraft, operating flight PX160 from Port Moresby to Goroka, experienced a technical issue with the Left-Hand engine, having just departed Jacksons Airport, Port Moresby. The flight crew immediately initiated the appropriate actions as per the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). They performed an engine shutdown and having sufficiently reduced the landing weight by burning fuel in a holding pattern, safely returned the aircraft to Jacksons.

AIR NIUGINI HOSTS NETWORKING EVENT FOR AGENTS

Air Niugini held a networking event for its travel and ticketing agents in Port Moresby last Thursday (18th May) to brief them on the latest plans and developments within the airline, the first face-to-face meeting since COVID. The event also provided an opportunity for agents to discuss and ask questions about the airline products and anything relating to Air Niugini. Apart from the agents in Port Moresby, there were also those who travelled in from Kieta, Madang, Lae and Goroka for the event. Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Gary Seddon thanked the fifty plus agents for attending the event and gave an update on the progress since he joined Air Niugini two months ago. He highlighted several activities including re-fleeting, opportunities to improve customer service and airfares.

AIR NIUGINI EXECUTIVES MEET WITH PALAU PRESIDENT

Acting Air Niugini Chief Executive Officer, Mr Gary Seddon and his executives met with Palau President, Surangel Whipps Jr in Port Moresby over the weekend to deliberate on the current Air Niugini flights between PNG and Palau. Both parties expressed that there are further opportunities to explore to promote the sector, build interest and steadily grow passenger volumes. They further added that by connecting Pacific Islands to drive trade and tourism, it provides an opportunity for Air Niugini to strengthen its position as a regional airline, supporting the sixth freedom traffic which is the right or privilege of operating scheduled international air services via the home state of the carrier to move traffic between the two states.

Air Niugini management is working hard to reduce some recent effects on the airlines schedule which has been affected by several external factors. While the airline ended 2022 on a high note with excellent OTP (On Time Performance) the new year has to date not continued this trend.Air Niugini�s General Manager, Commercial Paul Abbot said that several factors have combined and as a result has unfortunately meant customers are seeing a higher number of disrupted or downgraded flights than the airline would like.

AIR NIUGINI�S FIRST NATIONAL RETIRING PILOT CAPTAIN PAUL KODOR LEAVES BEHIND LEGACY

Papua New Guinean pilot Captain Paul Kodor had retired in February this year after flying with Air Niugini for 34 years, leaving behind a great legacy including training a large number of pilots including many of the PNG nationals who are now flying the airline�s Boeing aircraft. He is Air Niugini�s first national pilot to have retired upon reaching the age of 65, following his final flight, PX004 on the Boeing 767 from Brisbane to Port Moresby on February 2, the day he turned 65 years old. 65 years is the maximum age approved by ICAO for pilots on international flights. His greatest achievement was becoming a Check and Training pilot on the Boeing aircraft following Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) PNG�s approval in 2004. Over the years, Captain Kodor conducted at least seven type rating courses which involved 14 pilots, mostly First Officers (FOs) trained under his wings, many of whom are currently flying Air Niugini�s Boeing aircraft.

LINK PNG and PNG AIR REAPPLY TO ICCC FOLLOWING EXTENDED EFFECTS OF COVID-19

Link PNG has today confirmed that it and PNG Air have reapplied to ICCC for Link PNG to acquire a minority shareholding in PNG Air.�� Both PNG Air and Link PNG believe ICCC approval of this will benefit Papua New Guinean Nationals and travellers. Air Niugini Delays Delivery Of Four 737 Max Jets Until At Least 2024

Air Niugini has updated its purchase contract with the Boeing Company to delay the delivery of the four Boeing 737 MAX jets it has on order until at least 2024, the airline�s Managing Director Alan Milne said on Tuesday. �The four 737 MAX jets were ordered in 2014, and the airline had originally been due to receive its first aircraft later this year. Mr Milne said, �This delay will give the airline more time to complete a broader review of its fleet plans, including a future replacement type for its smaller Fokker regional jets. This will then determine if the MAX is still appropriate for Air Niugini, or whether other Boeing products would better suit as a replacement for the airline�s existing Fokker, Boeing 737 and 767 aircraft types�.

LinkPNG To Launch First Passenger Services To Komo, Hela

Link PNG, a subsidiary of Air Niugini will launch its first commercial passenger flights to Komo airport in Hela province effective, Tuesday 19th of November 2019. The schedule flights will initially operate twice a week, every Tuesdays and Thursdays, departing Port Moresby at 10: 15am and arriving in Komo at 11:45am. The return flight leaves Komo at 12:10pm, arriving back in Port Moresby by 1:40pm. All flights will be operated by Link PNG�s 50 seat Dash 8-315 aircraft.�

Air Niugini Announces Customer Aircraft Support Centre

Air Niugini plans to become a key player in global airline servicing in a move that will significantly contribute to the Papua New Guinea economy with the introduction of the Air Niugini Maintenance Repair Overhaul (MRO) facility. The initiative is being driven by Managing Director Alan Milne, whose engineering background identified huge potential in the talent within the Air Niugini engineering and maintenance teams. Mr Milne said PNG's geographic location, talent and infrastructure made it a logical option for airline servicing for operators in Australia, Asia and the Pacific Islands.
