11th National Kenu & Kundu Festival 2016

The 11th National Kenu and Kundu festival is set for the 04th – 06th November 2016, in Alotau, Milne Bay Province.

The Kenu and Kundu Festival has been hosted for more than 10 years and comprises of the most spectacular canoe cultural event in Papua New Guinea with well over 1,500 participants and 110 canoes, with 20,000 approximate spectators per day.

This festival celebrates the traditional sailing canoes and Kundu drums that are a vital part of life in Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea. The canoes used in this festival are crafted in the same way as the ancestors of the Milne Bay people built many years ago. The colors and patterns represent the tribe and the area the canoe comes from.

Traditional dancing groups will gather from all across the Milne Bay province creating a rich diversity of performances.

The event features dance shows, lifestyle demonstrations, live music and more and is a must for visitors.
